What Causes Sciatica Pain?
Our body has a long nerve called sciatic nerve.
It originates from the lumbar spine and extends down the back of the thigh
through the muscles below the knee to the toes. When this nerve is pressed for
any reason, severe pain spreads from the waist down to the feet. This is called
sciatica.
As many as 40 percent of people suffer from
sciatica. One of the many causes of this pain is a herniated disc or soft bone
in the lumbar spine putting pressure on the nerve. Anyone, male or female,
between the ages of 30 and 50 can get this disease.
Causes of Sciatica Pain
When the back muscles become weak, the soft
bone that usually lies between the two vertebrae (vertebrae) moves and puts
pressure on the nerve. It can also be caused by age-related degeneration,
dislocation of hard bones or vertebrae in the back, lumbar spinal canal
stenosis or narrowing of the nerve pathways.
This type of pain also occurs when the piriformis muscle is strained.
This can be caused by sudden lifting of heavy objects or bending forward, sweeping, pushing tube wells, sitting for long periods of time, work that involves jerking of the waist, long journeys on motorcycles or bicycles.
Symptoms of Sciatica Pain
Sharp pain when moving the waist, twisting,
pain aggravated by bending forward, pain can spread to the back of the thigh,
the muscles below the knee, and even to the soles of the feet and toes.
Pain and tingling increases after walking or
standing for a while, and decreases again after sitting. Dizziness, numbness
and heaviness in the affected leg, tingling sensation may occur.
Treatment of Sciatica Pain
In the first case, the pain is cured if the patient takes two weeks of complete rest (lying on hard bed) and taking certain medicines. In some cases, surgery is needed to remove a bulging disc or repair a narrowed spinal canal.
Physiotherapy is a modern treatment method of this disease. Surgery may be required in some cases.
Non-surgical treatments include cold or hot compresses. Usually every two hours 20 minutes cold or hot, in some cases once cold, once hot - this is how to bake.
When Surgery of Sciatica Pain
● If the
pain does not subside after three months of home treatment.
● The pain is so intense that the patient is in
pain even when lying down.
● If the patient has impaired bowel control.
● If the legs (especially the leaves) are paralyzed or the sensation in the legs is reduced or completely gone.
What to do with Sciatica Pain
Don't sleep on too soft bed, don't do any work
with bent back, don't lean forward and lift something heavy, pray sitting in a
chair if you are in pain, use high commode, don't exercise while you are in
pain, lean on one side while getting up from bed and get up with your hands ,
working in an upright position, not standing or sitting for long periods of
time, using a waist belt while working or traveling in high places.
The problem is called sciatica
A tingling or tingling sensation starts in the
back of the thigh, moves down the back of the leg, sometimes to the sole of the
foot. Not just pain, but sometimes a feeling of numbness or tingling. This
problem is called sciatica.
This disease occurs when there is a problem at the root of the sciatic nerve. This pain or abnormal feeling is aggravated by sitting or standing for a long time, bending the spine, such as bending down to tie a shoelace, can cause pain. If you walk again or lie down, but less. In most cases, the sciatic nerve is damaged due to the disc or cartilage between the vertebrae of the spine slipping, protruding, being pressured by something, etc.
People with sciatica will not sit still for
long, especially if it is not comfortable. Take a short walk or lie down in
between sitting and working. If there is more pain, medicine can be taken. You
will get comfort by baking hot and cold in succession. After 2 to 3 hours apply
hot baking on the back of the thigh for 15 to 20 minutes. Then bake in the same
way for 15 to 20 minutes with an ice pack. In case of long-term pain, however,
the cause should be investigated and eliminated.
Warning of sciatica pain
Sciatica may recur after healing. So some precautions should be followed. Like sleeping on a hard bed. Do not lean. Do not sit for long periods of time. Avoiding trips that require prolonged sitting. Exercise as per doctor's instructions. Don't walk too much together. Do not climb very high stairs. Bake hot as advised.
